However, I believe in the ideals of humanism.
Due to this belief, I make the decision to challenge the idea that humanity is a malevolent entity on a daily basis. I am prompted to act against this idea by the beauty that I see in this world everyday. When I see all the compassion teachers have for the maturation of their students, my decision deepens. When I see children cooperating with one another no matter their race, ethnicity, or financial background, my love grows. When I see droves of people come together after a national tragedy is committed, my hope is restored.
Although there is violence, destruction, and suffering in the world, humans also possess a marvelous capacity for love, empathy, and greatness. All of these qualities make it effortless for me to believe in the inherent good of humanity. If humans are not moral beings, why would they have been placed on this Earth? The young boy giving his mother a hug after a demanding day at work; an impoverished woman giving all the money she made that day to a homeless man with a mentally disabled daughter; the teenager battling cancer who still manages to volunteer at the local animal shelter.
