For the Humanities Site Evaluation assignment, I have chosen www.poets.org from the Academy of American Poets. I visited the website on February 7, 2018. I noticed a quote on the main page that read “Poems are handbooks for human decency and understanding. Poets hold water in their cupped hands and run back from well because someone is parched and thirsting. The poem is a force field against despair.” I found this quote intriguing and it made me want to look furthermore into what the website was about. This site contains poems, poet biographies, books, videos and much more. They even offer poetry for children. The sight is easy to navigate. This website was founded back in 1934 in New York City by Marie Bullock who at the time was 23. Poets.org offers poetry for all occasions and Holidays. I will be focusing on the Black

She published several books of poetry. Maya Angelou touched many people, young generations as well as long-standing generations. She will forever be a great example of what a humanist is. She went through hell and back growing up. Having to deal with selective mutism between the age of 7-12. The mutism was a cause of her being sexually abused by someone in the home wasn’t easy I’m sure but she remained strong and kept on pushing. Maya Angelou has inspired many young ladies and has been an idol for woman being treated indifferently because of the color of their skin or the naps in their hair or just being a woman period. Maya Angelou calmed hearts that were broken with her passion and love for poetry transcribing peace and perseverance. She gave hope to those who weren’t hopeful and put a smile on those who didn’t want to smile. Maya Angelou turned all the negative and used it as a weapon to come back and fight harder. She turns the bad into good by helping other victims deal and cope with similar issues she had experience as a
