Humanistic Perspective Case Study

In this case study, we learn that Laura has created a better life for herself and her children. She remarried, her son is a law student, and her daughter is graduating college next May. Laura received her Master’s degree in social work and is now working for a non-profit human service agency in El Paso, TX. Kid has also had some major changes in his life as well. He is ending another marriage and has an 18-year-old daughter who is in college. He reaches out to Laura after having dreams about their past together for the past few weeks. Laura explains to Kid that Danny is still alive and that their son Zach moved in with him at the age of 8. Kid was stunned to find out that Danny attempted suicide but it was not successful. Laura encourages Kid to choose Danny now and be a friend after these years. Kid contacts Zach and wishes to visit him and Danny at their apartment in St. Louis. The humanistic perspective supports ideas of everyone being unique and valuable, human behavior is driven by a desire for growth and personal meaning, and people make radical changes (Morton, 2016). This perspective is best supported by the new life Laura has created for herself. At the age of 42 now, she has made radical changes to improve the life for her and her children. She was driven to change after what she experienced with Danny to make better. In previous case studies, we learned that Laura was interested in receiving a master’s degree in social work and work within the community. She accomplished this goal eight years ago by receiving her master’s degree and now she works for a non-profit human service agency for low-income families in El Paso. She also works part-time as a faculty member in social work at UTEP. She found meaning in her life by achieving the goals she wished for herself at a young
