The Humanistic Approach was influenced by the demand for mental health treatment resulting from WWI and WWII. Hans Eysenck published that Behaviorism (Electic Psychology and Psychoanalysis) was less effective over a two-year period than receiving no therapy at all. Errors with the paper have been pointed out, but the paper influenced a great dissatisfaction with Behaviorism. The Humanistic approach proposed that humans have free will, they search for meaning, and can achieve self- actualization by satisfying other needs. Abraham Maslow was influenced by the Gestalt approach, which influenced Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.
