Humanism Is Not A Religion

If one was to stop and think about humanism, they could narrow it down to considering it a philosophy, a religion, or maybe even both. Humanism is a view that think that human needs are more important than supernatural needs. After a small time of research, humanism should be considered a philosophy. Humanism cannot be a religion, because every religion has a god. Some may think, “Well what about atheism or agnosticism?” Atheism and agnosticism is not a religion. Atheists do not believe in a god and agnostics do not believe in a god, but rather some sort of a supreme divine power that is unknown. Now religions such as Mormonism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, even Pastafarianism has some sort of god. A person who has some sort of religion cannot be a humanist because they put god’s needs before their needs. Therefore, humanism is a philosophy not a religion. In a Christian’s worldview, humanism is not something that would line up along with our doctrine. Humanism is also another word for materialism, which is something the Lord does not like this. We Christians should stay away from this philosophy and try their best not to care for the materialistic things in this world. So, Humanism, do you consider it a philosophy, religion, or both?
