Humane Society Analysis

Volunteer Work at the Humane Society I chose to volunteer at the Casper Humane Society. While I was there, my main tasks were to play with and give attention to the dogs and cats. When I was with the dogs I would rotate to different pens after about ten minutes and either pet the dogs, play with them, or brush them. There were certain dogs I spent more time with depending on their behavior. I was also able to spend time with the cats. Since I am more of a cat person I spent more time with the cats and would let them sit on my lap and would pet them, or if they were in a playful mood I would let them play with my lanyard. I was also given a bag of cat treats to feed to them. The most satisfying part of the experience was being able to spend some time with animals that were probably lonely or had been through something difficult. Many animals in there were rescue animals, strays, or had been given up by owners that could no longer take care of them. I …show more content…
I was dealing with a lot of change and my experience at the humane society was a way for me to healthily deal with my stress. I was able to focus on the task at hand and enjoy myself. Another term that is relatable to the experience is prosocial. Even though I wasn’t helping a person in particular I was giving much needed love and attention to these animals. In a way I was helping the people who work at the humane society by pitching in with some of their responsibilities like brushing the dogs and feeding the cats. The final term that relates to this experience is extrinsic motivation. I completed this project for several reasons, one of them being able to pass this class. The other is that I have wanted to do more volunteer work and get more involved and being in a new place makes this the perfect time to start. I have always loved animals so volunteering at the humane society was rewarding simply in the fact that I got to spend time with the cats and

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I have worked many service jobs throughout my life. Most of those times I worked with the elderly in nursing and retirement homes. I enjoy volunteering for these people because being able to connect and hear stories with people who have lived a much longer life than mine gives me purpose. My service at these homes was a different type of work than being at the forest preserve however, the help I bring the the people in their home is very important. This includes bringing dinner to the table, playing board games to past time, or even taking someone for a walk.…

One of the many benefits of volunteering there was the repeated opportunity to meet social workers and other workers in the Human Service field; a benefit I also received at Momma’s House. Momma’s House is an organization that provides housing for teenaged, single mothers and their infant(s). Here I also focused on childcare, mainly when the mothers were doing chores or at meetings. This class influenced my decisions to partake in certain community service opportunities in college; most of which allowed me to be hands on with many children. I am currently a member of Sister’s with Pride, a community service organization on campus that mentors adolescent girls.…

One of the most powerful experiences of intrinsic motivation, for me came shortly after a devastating occurrence upon the city of Aurora Colorado. On July 20th, 2012 I was an attendant of midnight premier of the “Dark Knight,” at the Century 16 Movie Theater, also known as one of the U.S worst massacre ever. Two days after the shooting, I assembled a group of friends to create “Colorado Strength Ribbons.” The reason I choose this topic to write about is because before this class, I still looked back and wondered as to why I was motivated go as far as I did to create this project. I saw no reward, but I strived to continue pushing forward.…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

I would like to think of myself as a “good person”, someone who is simply nice by nature, but I could also be someone who struggles to do the right thing, perhaps even against his/her nature. Or someone we approve of, based on our cultural rules. I try to help anyone that is in need if, I can, always try to the right thing. But, as we already know are human, nobody is perfect. At the beginning of this course that’s what I thought about myself, then after learning all the ethical and moral theories, I found out that what you determine what is morally good for you is morally right, as long as your intentions were good then the deed was morally right, what creates the most happiness with less amount of suffering is morally right, and so many…
