In humans, using Homo sapiens, as an example, the spermatozoa are produced by spermatogenesis. During this mechanization, the spermatogonium which is the human stem cell divides by mitosis, to form spermatocytes. These cells then go through meiosis, to form spermatids, which are known as haploid gametes. This means that as daughter cells, they will have half the number of genetic material as compared to the parent cells. These spermatids are not mature, so they go through spermiogenesis so that they can differentiate to spermatozoa. Once they are through, the spermatozoa are ready for fertilization. The spermatozoa are formed in the testes, and connect in the epidydimis, on to the vas deferens, on through to the ejaculatory duct and finally in the urethra. In animal kingdom, the offspring is an embryo, or in less cases an egg and on the other hand in plants the offspring is the seed. It is also apparent that all kingdoms use mitosis and meiosis to maintain the right chromosome number, though there is the potential for sympatric speciation to happen within animals and plants, a better example being that of salamanders and polyploidy in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (M Cresti, Romano Dallai, Università di Siena1999).
To conclude, there are mainly a number of differences in reproduction in animals and plants, with the most used being the application of asexual reproduction in plants. The capability of plants to reproduce asexually is one which has proved to have fact gains to the successful evolution and survival of a species, and although it is not to be depended upon, I believe it is a better method to enhance the continuation of a set of alleles in a gene
