A common misconception of human trafficking is that it is same or very similar to smuggling. Those who are “smuggled” into a country are doing so by their own free will, without coercion. Human trafficking victims don’t have to be shipped anywhere internationally to still be “trafficked”. Since they are being captured or coerced into slavery, it is against their free will, therefore wildly different from smuggling. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service, Human trafficking is a “criminal business that profits from enslaving people for sexual servitude and forced labor.”…

Slavery between chattel Africa and New World Africa both were strong manners of oppression that were used to be a tool of fear and oppression. New World slavery often described with ostracizing the victim, is not usually thought of as a way to oppress someone especially in Modern Day Western Civilization. A contrived conception of African slavery by white oppressors often comes with the almost blaming of the African peoples who were in fact enslaved. Oppressors claiming that New World slavery was not as bad compared to chattel and that chattel slavery is savage compared to their own. Although this might be different than the physical brutality that is often thought of when using the term slavery, this connotation is what would be called chattel…

According to Todres (2013), human trafficking is “the recruitment, transportation,” or transfer of people, using fear, coercion, or deceit, “for the purpose of exploitation” (para. 3). In other words, human trafficking is modern-day slavery. Although human trafficking is a global problem, labor and commercial sex trafficking is practiced domestically in the United States, which is influenced by consumer choices and the anti-trafficking policies of corporations. In 2000, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Clinton (Ezell, 2016).…

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors have voted to combat human labor and sex trafficking by creating a human-trafficking commission. This commission will be investigating the types of human trafficking, identify policies and prevention for victims, and work with the police to stop human trafficking. Human trafficking includes slavery, forced labor, debt bondage, and commercial sexual exploitation, however, majority of victims reported that they were in the forced labor category. Surprisingly, many human trafficking reports are from California, with the Bay Area being a prime target for this issue due to its many harbors, airports, industries, and large immigrant populations. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, usually for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual mistreatment. Is the United States role something that has a good reason to be done? I would say it is because even though there is the existence of increased U.S. foreign policy attention to human moving things illegally from one place to another over the past ten years, the problem remains existing all over a large area and deeply established in many Asian countries. Halting the practice of moving things illegally from one place to another in people will require U.S. leadership and effective partnerships with Asian governments, NGOs, and huge company, companies, as well as a special focus on improving local police and (law-related)…

The debate over slavery and servitude has been compared and contrasted since the evolution of both practices. The overarching debate topic has been whether or not the two participants in this practice were more alike than different or more different than alike. Indentured servants are European immigrants that migrated to America and worked for landowners and were considered property and slaves were for the most part Africans, forcibly taken a property. Although indentured servants and slaves in Colonial America were enduring similar obstacles and subjugation under European control, because of their life-long bondage, sun up to sun down work schedule, lack of litigation restricting the types of discipline imposed, and being stripped of their identity, African slaves were treated more different than alike compared to…

Throughout society, we do not view prostitution as universally moral. Typically, women who have chosen to sell themselves for sex are seen as ‘sluts’ or ‘whores’. Kantianism clearly explains that if it is wrong on one side of the spectrum to proceed in this act, in this example women, then it must be equally immoral for men to…
