Human trafficking is a worldwide problem. Many may think trafficking doesn’t happen in the United States, but it does. According to Human Trafficking Resource Center (HTRC), 2,795 cases of trafficking have been reporting thus far in 2015 in the United States alone. Many aren’t aware because this is looked at as less of a problem than it really is. It is essential to stay informed on human trafficking because each and every person could come in contact with at least one trafficked person; and that one person could save the trafficked one from a tragic lifestyle they have been forced into. Out of 11,001 calls reporting trafficking, 3,063 have been community members according to HTRC. It is up to the communities around nation to spread awareness of this crisis to help those in need.
Although there are many types of human trafficking, there are two main types, which include: sex trafficking and labor trafficking. This happens to people of all ages, not just adults – children too. According to the article “How Can You Help”, human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against his or her will. “Unlike historical slavery, human trafficking is not legal…Instead of being help captive by law, victims are trapped physically, psychologically, financially, or emotionally by their traffickers” (Kloer).
