The International Labor Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally” (“The Facts”). Human trafficking is a global crisis that still occurs around the world today. Human trafficking is the exploitation of human rights. It is the coercion of people or obtaining people by fraud and using them for servitude, labor, or sex. Human trafficking is also practiced domestically. The human trafficking industry profits up to $150 billion dollars globally each year.
Many countries around the world are dealing with the issue of human trafficking. These countries lack safety, a strong economy, and their poverty rate is skyrocketing therefor many of these countries under these conditions are very vulnerable to human trafficking. Many third world countries in Africa face trafficking for labor and in the sex industry because they are living in poverty victims may think that they are promised a better life.
