Human Trafficking is one of the largest issues we face globally today especially with refugee crises such as the displacement of a large portion of the Syrian population due to the Syrian civil war. This is a global issue taking place in almost every country and taking different forms, such as forced labour and sexual exploitation of victims who are being moved from their homes and can be taken to different countries completely. Human trafficking is modern slavery and a huge issue globally with an increasing number of international organizations pushing to prevent this atrocity, such as Anti-Slavery International, United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking and Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking, which we will examine …show more content…
There are three elements to human trafficking the act, the means and the purpose. The act is what the instance of trafficking is that is being carried out such as recruitment or transportation of persons. The means is how the act is carried out such as abduction or fraud, essentially how people are gathered or brought in for trafficking purposes. Lastly the purpose is why the trafficking is taking place, what are the people being trafficked for such as forced labour or sexual exploitation. This has been a constant issue for the entire course of humanity, but has become an especially important issue now with the displacement of millions of humans around the world due to war, for example the Syrian civil war has displaced over four million people alone. This does not mean that this is just a problem in other places, it also happens here at home in Canada and the US, for example in Hamilton, Ontario in 2012 a couple were convicted of trafficking 19 women from Hungary to Canada under the promise of good work, instead they were forced to work for nothing. This is an issue that can happen to anyone at any time even in our own back yard which is why there are many initiative and organizations working towards the prevention and elimination of human …show more content…
UN.GIFT has two main goals; to foster awareness, global commitment and action to counter human trafficking in partnership with different stakeholders including governments, the international community, non governmental organizations and other elements of civil society and the media; and to assist countries in creating and strengthening support structures for victims of trafficking.(site Ungift). This organization has had a number of initiatives in creating action plans against human trafficking in over thirty countries since its creation, such as the US, Ireland, and Norway. These national action plans promote education, prevention and to combat human trafficking
