Years ago, streets along the southern border that you would find large vehicle traffics are now dominated by illegal immigrants who do all sorts of jobs to earn a few pesos. They have foreign accent, most of them are forced into the situation after being deprived of their resources and they got nothing to look up to. Children also for part of the human trafficking, in fact form a large percentage of the population of human being smuggled in the border. The victims are frequently being extorted, assaulted , and trafficked for forced labor and sexual exploitation within the country and in the united states. The increasing participation of the drug cartels in human trafficking is facilitated not only by their vast resources and capital but also by corruption in the Mexican government, lack of laws to prevent such illegal activities and the lack of adequate mechanisms that can be used to cab these activities. Before 2007, Mexico had not formulated any anti-trafficking laws to prevent such activities in the country; this gave the cartel more time to expand the business out of the border spreading to United States of …show more content…
Before both the governments realized that the issues was getting out of hand it has spread widely and its effects are now being seen. The southern border has become a lawless place where the drug cartels harass and manipulate a few NGO’s that are dedicated to end the activities. To add salt to injury, the have gone further to manipulate the local authorities which shouldn’t be the case. The drug cartels have a lot of resources to succeed in this as mentioned earlier. As the drug cartels gain power, capabilities and the resources, the moral fabric of the Mexican and American societies are being increasingly threatened.
The long term social problems of allowing drug cartels take over drug trafficking within the border are; dramatic increase in violence, the seizure of power over the entire states and regions by cartels , spread of AIDS, the rupture of thousands of families, and the perpetuation of violence against women, indigenous communities and central Americans. Both the governments cannot be silent about this a solution need to be put in place to avoid the above problems.
