Human trafficking has been a known problem throughout the U.S. for many years. Human Trafficking has often been described as modern day slavery. Human Trafficking victims are controlled by their captors and forced to do things against their will. These victims are often beaten, raped, and kept in confinement. In 2000 the TVPA Protection Act was put in place. TVPA stands for the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act. This act was supposed to help prevent trafficking, protect its victims, and prosecute offenders, but that is not what it did. Although, this policy was a major milestone for human rights legislation, over time it has become a failure.
