Introduction The term “Human Trafficking” conjure’s up a number of different images depending upon your geographic location, culture, or interest. What most people don't think about is children, children are trafficked just as often as adults are around the globe. The United States is one of the top three destinations in the world for human sex trafficking. Men, women, and children forced into the illegal sex trade each year (Tomes, 2013). Quality education is a basic need that every child should be entitled to. Education is something that children from ages 5-18 should be entitled to, however, the average age of a person's entry into prostitution in the United States is between the ages of 12 and 14, seventy percent of trafficked children are trafficked for work in the sex trade (Tomes, 2013). This reauthorization act also provided grant programs to assist state and local law enforcement to combat trafficking. Most importantly, it also increased measures to combat trafficking internationally, including provisions to fight sex tourism, a pilot program for treatment of trafficking victims abroad, and a strengthening of government contract regulations, this ensures that contracts made by the government are not made with individuals or organizations that promote or engage in human trafficking (Current Federal Laws, 2015). These programs and grants are so important because Kristof and WuDunn (2009) point out that the United States government plays a large role in how other countries view global issues such as human trafficking. When the US puts out initiatives to combat human trafficking, other countries either follow suit, or start to crack down on their own human trafficking issue. These initiatives set forth by the US government is one small step in combating a large issue that cannot be fixed overnight.
