Activist Idea

Idea #1
I propose to conduct a Human Trafficking awareness campaign aimed at educating current social workers and therapists on how to identify, intervene and advocate for these victims. I will utilize a questionnaire testing the worker?s knowledge on the subject prior to the power-point presentation. Social workers are one of the types of professionals who will encounter human trafficking victims in their practice and depending on their education on the subject, they may not know how to identify or intervene with this population. Through increased knowledge about human trafficking, social workers/therapists are better able to build trust with the victims.

Although the most common victims are women under 18 years old, the victims can be male, older adults, people of dominant ethnic groups or religious backgrounds, people of any class, and from any educational backgrounds (Kloer par 3). It is important to become more aware of human trafficking; as one might say, “knowledge is power.” The more educated the public becomes on human trafficking, the easier it will be to fight this battle. There are several organizations un-affiliated with the government that can help the victims of human trafficking by providing housing, clothing, food, a job or education that the victim may have missed out on while dealing with their circumstance (Chisholm secs 6 & 10). The government has also put together several programs to aid in the recovery of the victims.…

Human trafficking can be a touchy subject, as most people want to turn a blind eye to it. The horrors of human trafficking are so foreign to many, unlike causes that people can identify with because they know someone that it directly affects. However, the healing cannot start unless people start to educate themselves about how human trafficking affects the world and how they can help alleviate those effects. Human trafficking is more prevalent than people think and affects the world in many ways, but there are organizations that can help and those are only going to get bigger. Most people do not know how many people human trafficking actually affects and where it can be found.…

In light of this threat, the child welfare workers must keep a close eye on the identified child. Depending on the number of children are identified as vulnerable to sex trafficking victimization (“Free”, 2015), a grant of 200,000 should be given to DHHS to hire new case managers. This grant would allow the child welfare department of DHHS to hire 50% more case managers who are trained on the risks factors for sex trafficking, and who are given a 10-child case load of strictly at-risk children to be monitored. Having workers that specialize in dealing with at-risk youth will hone the skills of those case managers to fit their…

Rebecca Clay explores the awareness and prevention of human trafficking while including a subsection about how survivors cope after being rescued. She writes about how many people walk around their everyday life looking at victims of human trafficking without realizing it. The reason that these seemingly independent victims do not leave their traffickers is because they are being brainwashed. They can be tricked into thinking that they are performing these tasks to help ‘pay for the rent’, or they will have a horrible life for threatening to leave.…
