What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the term human trafficking? Is it someone selling his or her body for money, working slaving hours for nothing, or someone sold to another human for profit? Human trafficking actually represents all of the above. It profits up to $7 billion dollars annually worldwide (Numbers). This is a global issue, and just like any other global issue, it involves the most complex of solutions. When one solution is created, a problem follows along with it. There are many problems that are the cause for human trafficking but the main two are oppression and poverty. People are sold through the black market everyday. Not only sold, but their organs are taken and sold as well creating a whole different ballgame. Organs are very valuable, hence why people have the organ donor sticker on the license. The International Labour Organization (ILO) says the numbers of children has declined since 2000 from 246 million to 168 million children. Most of the regions with those high numbers are Asia, the Pacific, and North Africa. Children are mainly vulnerable to traffickers because the lack of documented birth registration in certain third world countries have made children increasingly vulnerable to the exploitation of traffickers (UNICEF 2003). It must be pretty hard to convince the government that your child has gone missing if there’s no evidence of the child the database. The film showed a view of the people growing up in poverty and who are willing to do whatever it takes to have their chance at a better life. Tourists are easy targets for having their organs removed. They are drugged and tricked. Many die from this procedure since it’s unofficial and very dangerous. Now victims are not only kidnapped, they are tricked into leaving for another country. Most are illegal immigrants that don’t have the money to leave and start over in another country so what happens is someone offers to help them. Immediately they are in that person’s debt and owe them. Debt bondage is what the term is called. It traps people to where they can’t escape. In about 5 to 7 years, many of them die.
