“Human service leaders are tasked with a difficult job of helping communities learn to adapt to new ways of thinking, living, and accepting people of all backgrounds as valued and deserving of services designed to improve their quality of life” (Harley-McClaskey, 2017, p.6). So, therefore, even though I have a lot of valuable leadership skills, there are many more skills needed for human services organizations.
Strengths and Weaknesses While providing leadership skills, there comes a time where you see your strengths and weaknesses. Even though there maybe a lot of strengths, we all have areas that need to be improved. My strengths while in an organizational situation are communication, honesty, teamwork, and responsibility. In a workplace, there are many situations you will have to use teamwork, communication, influence, and responsibility. Also, while working at a human service organization, you have to seek out more skills then the ones you have built up, at times you will have to go out into the community and be a voice for many different occasions. For example, many advocates use their voice when they were fighting for woman’s rights and freedom. Also, when trying to bring a community of diversity together, you have to use a lot of leadership skills pertaining to bring them together and understanding the diversity within the group. Although, I have gained a lot of powerful leadership skills there are some that need improving. In a human service skill, I need to strengthen the way I work in a macro level, which would help me influence policy makers and leaders.
