5. The information provided under the heading `How much will it cost?’ is inappropriate. Rule B1.11 which relates to communicating effectively with clients, requires a clear basis of the calculation of the cost to be provided to the client. Details of any foreseeable outlays should have also been provided. Not providing clients with such information is a breach of the Rule B1.11.…
In the textbook Inequality in US Social Policy, Bryan Warde introduces the chapter by defining social welfare. Social welfare is defined as “a subset of social policy, a system of governmental laws, programs and benefits, and services that are designed to protect against the broadly distributed risk to income” (Hacker, 2002) (Warde, 2017 p. 184). Warde expands on the notion of social welfare in the field of social work.…
Critical Analysis Paper #1 Question #1: Social Work and Systems Theory Social Work as a concept and a career is simple, yet difficult to define. Social work has grown and developed from the seed that is envelops social issues in our society. As Robbins, Chatterjee, and Canda state in Contemporary Human Behavior Theory (2012), defined situations within society have dictated the need for social work and advocates to speak on behalf of those who are unable to speak for themselves. From the inception of its career, social work has been associated with helping those in need, whether that be at a micro-level with individual therapy and case management, or a macro level with policy development and large scale advocacy efforts.…
Heartlands Hospital is in Birmingham, Bordesley Green. It is a large organisation that provides help for medical purposes like broken bones, diabetes or even mental health and it is supported by the NHS. Heartlands is also government funded which means that everything is paid through taxes. It is set in a busy environment, a lot of noise during the day, quieter throughout the day. This means that it is busier in the morning then later on.…
Human Service Agency The human service agency I chose is the Behavioral Health Unit located in the Lake Cumberland hospital. The mission statement of this organization is leading the way to better healthcare by providing the level of care for our patients that we would want for our own families (Lake Cumberland Hospital, 2018). The goal is to be the healthcare leader in our area, providing excellent care with kindness and compassion (Lake Cumberland Hospital, 2018). Location and Size…
Because of this, social justice is achieved through the servitude of people deemed as vulnerable, and oppressed, along with living in poverty (Jacobson, 2001). We also understand its pivotal role in the service it delivers to those in need by a way of the social policy arena devising and advocating to address the wide range of social problems in order to bring about change (Jacobson, 2001). Ironically, social policy efforts that are recent is aimed at the establishment or the protection of social workers roles, verses promoting transformations in the delivery of human services (Jacobson, 2001). It is also suggest more often in today’s society, social work students are more readily trained as clinical practitioners than advocates of change (Jacobson, 2001). Although there is a continuation of promoting social justice and action, strategies of this type is no longer prioritized (Jacobson, 2001).…

Arkansas Child Welfare System Timeline In the later 1970s, reports of suspected child abuse and neglect soared in Arkansas. Social workers and child welfare administrators were tasked with investigating all the reports, monitoring and assisting the families with substantiated abuse or neglect, and safely sheltering the more endangered children in foster care homes. The state struggled with keeping up with the expanding range of federal pressure, which was more focused on the preservation of families and the option of adoption.…

In the field of human services, having a nonjudgmental mindset is crucial to carrying out your job efficiently. In order to work with clients from all different backgrounds, it is necessary to know how to adjust your method to each individual. On my journey to becoming a human services professional, I have dealt with my own prejudices like never before. There are so many things that we say or unconsciously think on a daily basis that projects a great deal of prejudices without knowing it. The baseline and the hidden bias tests were eye-openers for me.…

What are the barriers to receiving services and how might a human service professional counter them? There can be many different barriers to receiving services such as the clients view of their situation, embarrassment, reluctance to admit they have a problem, cultural differences, and client’s perception of helpers are some of the barriers that prevent people from seeking help. As human service professionals, we can counter some of these barriers by communicating with clients and building positive relationships, so we can understand the needs of our clients and adequately help them. In terms of cultural differences we should educate ourselves on the different cultural values of the clients we will be working with.…
One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…
