Human Services Ethical Dilemmas

In this media presentation, I will discuss how the human services professional is facing an ethical conflict regarding John's case. I will explain how I would handle the situation if I were the professional in this case and I will support my decision with a code of ethics found in the learning resources.

The human services professional in the presentation is starting to feel sympathy for her client John. She is forming opionions against John's wife feeling that Chahanna should have handled the situation better. The human services professional is feeling that John's wife should not have slept with John's cousin and really thinking to her self that John had a reason to act out in the manner that he did. Thoughts ran across the human professional's mind that John has never had a criminal history and she respects how John is willing to do what is needed to be back in his children's life. Due to the human professional having these thoughts these are examples of ethical conflicts. Her personal feelings are starting to get in the way. (Laureate Education Producer, 2014). The human services professional did remain in her professional role and thought to herself that she needs to ultimately do what is in the best interest John and his family and she knew that she could not let her personal emotions get in the way.

I would make decisions based on what my role is to my client and that is ensuring that every decision is in the best interest of the client and or all parties involved. The code of ethics that justifies this decision is the reponsibility to the profession standard 27. It reads human services professionals know the limit and of their professional knowledge. States that decisions are based on knowledge and scope of practice. National Organization for Human Services.
