Joan initially made contact with Shirley when Joan called Human Services at 8:00 p.m. The Human Services office where Joan is located closes at 5:00 p.m. so the Joan’s call has been automatically referred to the emergency child abuse line where Shirley is the helper on duty.
The initial interview began with Shirley being pleasant and professional attempting to establish a climate for positive communication and makes sure that Joan and the children are in a safe place.
