The main focus of a social worker is to help individuals, families and groups cope with a wide variety of problems (2016 June 11, Bureau of Labor Statistic). These problems may vary by nature and resources available which determine the method used to treat the problem. Social worker duties include but are not limited to: Identifying people and communities in need of help, assess clients’ needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine their goals, Respond to crisis situations such as child abuse and mental health emergencies, Develop and evaluate programs and services to ensure that basic client needs are met and to provide psychotherapy services (2016 June 11, Bureau of Labor Statistic).
An important aspect in social work is advocacy. A worker in this field advocates or raises awareness on behalf of their clients and the social work profession on local, state, and national levels.
