A person is allowed to keep their own culture in a diverse society. Furthermore, human rights protect those who are put at a disadvantage in some cultures, e.g women and children are protected by rights in patriarchal cultures. Human rights protect the interest of children and infants, this is because children are easily manipulated, neglected and abused, human rights serve as a way of ensuring their safety. The argument that human rights to do not protect the individual interests of the people because it reduces the general welfare and pleasure of the society as a whole is a good argument. This is because there have been instances where acts of terrorism have been prevented and the safety of the general public has been protected because the human rights of some individuals were taken away. But the flaw in this argument is that the acts of terrorism or public protection have been isolated incidents and if a state is given the power to take away human rights of individuals, there is no safety in place to stop them from abusing their authority or oppressing the residents of the state who oppose them through legal means like peaceful protests.
