The first being to gain popularity with the citizen of Burma to reform the country’s constitution to allow Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the daughter of Aung San, one of Burma’s known independence heroes and a current representative of Burma’s Parliament to accede the Presidency. It is the belief of the Human Right’s Action Center that by allowing Aung San Suu Kyi to serve as the President of Burma the chance for better human rights can be achieved. Burma is a place where there are many human rights issues and without someone to advocate for the people they will not be resolved. The HRAC is currently trying to raise awareness within Burma and around the world to push for human rights reform and Aung San Suu Kyi’s candidacy. This is because “fewer than 5% of the world knows the Universal Declaration of Human Rights exists.” (HRAC, 2016) Due to this fact, the HRAC is asking world governments to acknowledge the existence of the UDHR and to have it printed on their passports for their citizens. Their main focus in this project is to attempt to get the United States to do this, showing the world that the U.S. is willing to uphold human rights and to send a message to the rest of the world that human rights exist and should be upheld.
