Mrs. X has been the Director of Human Resources at Hospital Y for five years. She received her Bachelor degree in Human Resources Management. After presenting her with the questions, she explained the most challenging and the most rewarding aspect of working in HR. She also offers advice for students entering the HR field. She explains the qualifications needed to become a successful HR manager and offers her perspective on how similar her role is to what is being presented in our textbook.
The first question I asked her, “What three areas do you find the most challenging and why?” She finds complying with PPACA (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) while still struggling with the shifting deadlines and unclear regulations of the health reform law. Mrs. X states that working with insurance carriers to meet requirements, however, since the law has changed 30-40 times, is extremely important to make sure we are complying or face fines. Another challenging area is recruiting and keeping employee turnover to a minimum.
