Human Resources Management in Health Care
More and more attention is being concentrated on human resources management (HRM) within many healthcare systems globally. The duties of a human resource manager fall into three major areas. This includes employee compensation and benefits, staffing, and designing work (“Human Resource Management” 2007). When pertaining healthcare, HRM can be described as the various kinds of staff responsible for individual health intervention. The benefits the system can deliver depend mainly upon the competency, knowledge and motivation of the staff responsible for delivering healthcare services (Kabene et al. 2006). Both the number and cost of health care consumables, such as drugs, prostheses, and disposable equipment, are continuously rising, which in turn can significantly raise the costs of healthcare. Costs in these areas can affect the ability to hire and sustain efficient physicians. HRM strategies must be formed in order to find a suitable balance of workforce supply and the ability of physicians to practice effectively and efficiently (Kabene et al. 2006). A physician without sufficient tools is as useless as having the tools without the physician. The relationship between human resources management and healthcare is very multifaceted, and it requires continuous study and examination.
