Most organizations think of Human Resources (HR) as a department that makes employment decisions, strictly administrative functionalities. HR has evolved over the years and has now become more of a strategic partner rather than the sole purpose of recruitment, hiring, and termination. However, when it comes to employment services, the Human Resources department must be well-rounded and knowledgeable in all facets of the process. Human resources is no longer used exclusively for hiring practices; they are the backbone of any organization. Failure to have an educated and innovative HR department could lead a business to a stagnant state. HR should not only compile statistics and data, but also look at the impact that data has on an organization …show more content…
In order to keep up with the latest trends and technology, employers must decide whether or not to hire based upon its current position or for the future. There are techniques available in order to hire for the future based upon past trends. Trend analysis is one such approach that uses historical data to determined staffing levels based upon specific predictors (Heneman III, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015). This tactic will assist in hiring the appropriate amount of employees without being too overly-staffed. Judgmental techniques are another way to forecast HR requirements. An individual collects information and makes a forecast based upon such data (Heneman III, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2015). This approach could be used in restructuring, merging, or cost-cutting initiatives. Organizations can even predict product demand with a tactic such as ratio analysis. As unpredictable as the future can be, I feel that it is more desirable to hire based upon future organizational needs. Businesses must always be forward thinking in order to expand and be one step ahead of the competition. By solely hiring for current needs, an organization may remain stagnant and not reach its full
