Pheromones are used by a chemical messenger that are detected by a structure in the nose called the vomeronasal organ (VNO), a small, bilateral, blind tubular chemosensory organ found at the base of the nasal cavity in many mammals, but it is controversial whether this is also found in humans (Levin, 2004).
