One of America’s skilled authors, Henry Miller, portrays his understanding of human nature, stating that “Man has demonstrated that he is the master of everything - except his own nature”. He tells us that human nature is impossible to master due to its multiple personalities. We can see this in both literary works and in real life examples. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a story of a group of animals who fight their way through to reach freedom. In those animals we see the diversity of the human nature. It is in man’s nature to be a combination of both good and evil due to man’s nature to portray ignorance, leadership and greed in Animal Farm, by George Orwell.

As humans, we express a variety of natures – one of the most treacherous and

Directorship in Animal Farm is prominently the only positive trait that is said about the pigs. Napoleon and Snowball emerge as the acquainted leaders of the farm after the revolution. This can be observed in the narration of the pigs, “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership” (Orwell 35). The pigs provided stable supervision as they are seen as the superior and most intelligent animals on the farm. Snowball, the passionate, and eloquent pig was the most attuned to Old Major’s way of thinking. Throughout the book, he devoted himself to bettering the animals, both physically and mentally. He introduces the concept of literacy to the animals, so that they can better grasp the principles of Animalism and its seven laws. He was also the “thinker” of the rebellion, using his strategy skills to overcome the humans in the battle of cowshed. Undifferentiated from Snowball, there are people today who worked hard against the odds to achieve what they believe in. Tawakkul Karman, dubbed the Yemeni “mother of revolution” preaches “Be a leader. If you want to change anything, lead it, and again, be in the front line. So practice it,” (Karman). Leaving her children at home, 32 year old mother of three, led street rallies demanding that their autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down after three decades of ruling. Boxer, the horse, one of the most noted and well known characters in Animal Farm, represents the embodiment of ignorance. A prime example of Boxer’s ignorance is when he said, "I do not understand it. I would not have believed that such things could happen on our farm. It must be due to some fault in ourselves. The solution, as I see it, is to work harder. From now onwards I shall get up a full hour earlier in the mornings" (Orwell 66). Boxer’s simple mind cannot comprehend the fact that Napoleon’s ruling on Animal Farm is not as democratic and positive as he may think. He lessens the severity of the situation by stating that it can be solved if he works harder. His ignorance blinds him from Napoleon’s authoritarian ruling. This nature of man can also be observed in our civilization. Olivia Chow, a 2014 Toronto female minority mayoral candidate, has become a recent victim to online bullying via Facebook due to her ethnicity. “The slur was followed by silence from the other mayoral candidates. It is unconscionable that the top contenders reacted to racist jeering with the same disregard as their political forefathers. Until pressed, they said nothing” (Ellison). This quote outlines the other candidates’ ignorance towards Ms. Chow. Ms. Chow’s comes from an Asian heritage – due to her ethnicity, she faced various close-minded and offensive comments regarding her participation in the campaign. Her fellow candidates did

In a world filled with ecological and geographical diversity, humans have many enemies. While the debate over which foe is the most formidable, one can make the argument that mankind’s worst enemy is not a different species at all, but themselves. When talking about humans as their own enemies, an individual’s character traits have detrimental effects on said individual and those around them. Works of literature highlighting these traits and their effect on characters include Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Knowles’ A Separate Peace, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Sophocles’ Antigone. Authors incorporate these traits into texts to support the claim; humans are their worst enemies.…

Orwell illustrates that Mr. Jones's corruption and haughtiness results in the animals' anger and hostility. This irritation is built upon Jones's evil and opportunist character who sells his animals and their products -as Major has said- "to bring in money for [him] and his men" (Orwell 8). Furthermore, Jones is neglecting his farm and "[has] taken to drinking more than was good for him" (Orwell 18), and the worst thing is that he has kept his animals without food which fuels their anger and leads to the beginning of a new age and the end of Jones's ruling. So the animals have been very furious that everything has been uncontrollable.…

My political theory is a combination of not only my own opinions, but the ideas originally created by theorists such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill. “On Human Nature” Refutation David Hull’s “On Human Nature” is an article written to oppose human nature. Specifically, it challenges human evolution as the cause of universality/commonality of human traits. The case made in the article utilizes the logic behind Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection: evolutionary changes come via the generation of variation in each generation and differential survival of individuals with different combinations of these varying traits. The central thesis of “On Human Nature” is that any common set of traits that people share is due to chance as opposed to the inner workings of evolution.…
