The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors have voted to combat human labor and sex trafficking by creating a human-trafficking commission. This commission will be investigating the types of human trafficking, identify policies and prevention for victims, and work with the police to stop human trafficking. Human trafficking includes slavery, forced labor, debt bondage, and commercial sexual exploitation, however, majority of victims reported that they were in the forced labor category. Surprisingly, many human trafficking reports are from California, with the Bay Area being a prime target for this issue due to its many harbors, airports, industries, and large immigrant populations.
