The Triarchic Theory of Intelligence proposed by Robert J. Sternberg, an American psychologist that dedicated his time towards trying to make sense of the human intelligence, suggested that human intelligence is comprised of three different aspects, which are the analytical intelligence, practical intelligence, as well as creative intelligence (Ciccarelli & White, 2015). The analytical aspect of this theory refers to a person’s ability to analyze or break down problems that are complex into smaller parts before solving them (Ciccarelli & White, 2015). A test administered in an academic setting typically measures this aspect of human intelligence. Carraher, Carraher, and Schliemann conducted a study on Brazilian street children and found out that the same children that scored terribly in Mathematic tests administered in an academic setting could calculate well when they were put into a situation where they have to count for street business purposes (as cited in Sternberg, Grigorenko & Bundy, 2001). Carraher, later known as Nuñes, conducted similar studies over the years and the conclusion maintained fairly consistent (as cited in Sternberg, Grigorenko & Bundy, 2001). In another study conducted by Sternberg himself with another two of his partners in Kenya, they found out that the children’s knowledge on fighting diseases with natural medicines, such as herbs, were inversely correlated with their scores on their tests. This signifies an negative correlational relationship between practical intellectual and academic intellectual skills (as cited in Sternberg, Grigorenko & Bundy, 2001). This is because several studies have shown that someone with a high practical intelligence does not always do well in academic settings. In fact, under certain occasions, they might end up scoring poorly. In addition, one of the reasons why she did not attend any colleges or universities upon graduating high school is because she needed to earn a living for herself due to the fact that she does not have any financial support like most people her age because of the death of her parents. That implies that she barely has any money to allow her to pursue a higher education. If she were to give up her current job, and she ended up failing her studies, she might not be able to afford to pay for the extra semester that she will have to take in order to graduate. If she chooses to continue with her current job, however, she will be exposed to many other projects that will provide her with plenty of opportunities to gain more hands-on experiences on event organizing. For someone that possesses a high practical intelligence like Jackie, she will be able to deal with difficult situations without much trouble and apply what she’s learned to solve similar problems in the future with ease. Therefore, a higher education would not be necessary in Jackie’s case, assuming that she wishes to have further advancement in her
