Companions care for the individual’s health. They feel the need to care for the being, as if it is a duty as a friend. A prime example of this statement is during the time when Henry Clerval unites with his childhood friend Victor, Victor becomes ill and “Henry was [his] only nurse”(47). These friends are willing to sacrifice a great deal to come to the need of a friend, as seen on page 48, “this whole winter, instead of being spent in study, as you promised yourself, has been consumed in my sick room”(48). The resolve and caring nature of friends enables them to be people who keep an eye on each other and provide physical help when needed. Friends do not actually cause negative effects, but being there for their companion or even being there in the first place can cause negative effects. Also even the character of the so called friend can also be a crucial factor. A major example of this statement is the monsters particular predicament concerning friends.
