The human immunodeficiency virus or HIV is a virus that unlike many other viruses the body can not fight it off, once contaminated with the virus the person must live with the human immunodeficiency virus for the rest of their life. What HIV does is it kills off CD4 Cells or T Cells which are white blood cells that the immune system develops in order to helps the body fight off diseases, infections and other viruses. If the HIV virus is not treated, with time the virus kills so many T Cells that the body is unable to fight off other diseases, virus and infections that attack the body. The antibody screening test is the most common test taken to see if someone is HIV positive. This test looks for antibodies that the body makes against HIV, it is conducted in laboratory with a sample of blood or saliva. Blood, however is more efficient since the level of antibodies that appear are more than those in saliva. Another way to test for HIV is he rapid test where the blood or salvia used for testing is tested and results are given back in 30 minutes or less. If the result of the test come back positive then there must be a follow up diagnostic tests. The follow up diagnostic tests includes an antibody differentiation test, which distinguishes HIV-1 from HIV-2; an HIV-1 nucleic acid test, which looks for virus directly, or the Western blot or indirect immunofluorescence assay, which detect antibodies."( HIV Test Types). The follow up diagnosed test is assure the person that the diagnose was correct. There are two test a person can take at home.
