1. Describe an example of how human identity is formed by society.

Society plays a very important role in forming human identity. People that are in a certain society have different morals, beliefs and values than other societies. Someone may be formed by society because of the way that the people around them are. People are formed by society because they want to be a part of the social “trend”. That can be according to the latest fashion or technology. People don’t want to be different or a part from society. For example, someone that has lived in India for their whole life may wear traditional Indian clothing all of the time but when they come to Canada they may change because of society and may start to wear more western style clothing.

Someone that came from India to Canada may change themselves because of society and it may change the way that they see themselves. For example, when I was in India, I used to wear Indian clothing and had a different lifestyle. When I immigrated to Canada and came to Canada to settle, I started to look at myself in a different way because of society. I looked at myself as a Canadian. I started to wear western style clothing more such as jeans and t-shirts instead of traditional Indian clothing. This is something that can be seen in many people. Also, people become a part of new trends and new things that are going on around them. People change their way of thinking and their way of life. Another example is that when I was in India I used to eat traditional Indian food almost every day but when I came to Canada I started to eat different types of food more such as pizza and pasta. Also, since Canada is a multicultural society, I saw so many people of so many different cultures and backgrounds. I also realized that there was a very different society and way of life in Canada then there was back home in India. When I was exposed to this new society I gradually changed and became a part of this new …show more content…
The social pressure that is put on us is to basically become a part of that society. People also do not want to be different then society and do not want to be out of the crowd. So people change themselves and their identity. The society forms their identity into something different and become a part of the society that they have been exposed to. For example, people change the way that they think and the way that they act because of the new society that they are in and because of the social pressure. I think that people should not be worried about trying to be like everybody else and that people do not always have to fit in to the crowd to be perfect and to be accepted. People may also change because of society and their surroundings. For example, a teacher may start the year as very nice and lenient but further down the road, they may change because of the way that the students act. If the students take advantage of the teacher’s kindness and don’t listen or follow instructions, then the teacher may become stricter. This is social

A plethorabig percentage of people in the world follow the road most traveled and do not deviate from that path. They try so hard to “fit in,” and be like everybody else. For example, when a brand of shoe is trending, like Nike, everyone buys Nike shoes so they are “accepted” in the public eye. Another example is when people take pictures of their food and post it on social media for “likes.” These examples of uniformity happen everyday in our society, and eventually people start to look, act, think, and talk alike.…

A society is classified as a group of people who have the same set of values and ideals. That being said, it is very common in literature and in everyday life for an individual to diverge away from these ideals and values in order to create a sense of self. At the same time, it is possible for one to find a purpose or meaning through their community once an individual bands together with others in their society to campaign against something unjust. For example, in D Letter From Birmingham Jail, Dr. King discusses why he is in Birmingham and states, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.…

Any future experience will either be my experience, or it will not.” (Parfit- 186), which is what personal identity looks into. This essay will discuss whether personal identity is a matter of physical or psychological continuity, taking into account the famous ideas of philosophers such as John Locke, Derek Parfit and Bernard Williams.…

Some people say that our physical identity is not what defines us, but based on this movie, that presents a Chinese man who speaks English and who wants to live and work in America vs. an American blond who speaks Chinese and decides to live and work in China, clearly shows that our world treats us differently, based on our looks. Thus I thought that our physical identity plays a major role in giving people a first impression that leads them in many cases, in the wrong direction. For example, in this movie, there is scene where these two characters went to a restaurant, when they arrived the waitress talked to the man and ignored the lady thinking that she does not speak Chinese, but since he does not speak Chinese, the female character spoke…
