An embryo is one of the earliest stages of reproduction, where all the genetic information starts coming into place. There have been experiments editing human embryos, but Fredrik Lanner in Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, was the first to inform this process to the public. He let media watch his researchers edit the human embryos using a new machine called the CRISPR/Cas9. This machine allows researchers to cut DNA precisely. Stem cell biologist, Chad Cowan thinks that these experiments are secretly being done in US, China, and other countries. The United Kingdom has already given approval to one of the institutes in London to carry out these experiments. Chad Cowan quotes, “It’s basically light to moths”. He says that it’s almost impossible to stay away from …show more content…
The author in no way is trying to make the reader agree/disagree at any time, but the remarks other scientists and researchers that the author includes, do affect the way the reader feels about genetically editing embryos. I honestly believe that this process of editing “life” should only be used for emergencies or dire needs. For example when we know that a baby is prone to some sort of major disease (could be hereditary) like Down syndrome, then only we should use this new process to extract that specific gene that causes the disease. But having people choose what genes to edit, will result in uncorrectable
