Characteristics of Family Systems Theory: The family systems theory was introduced by Dr. Murray Bowenin in the late 1960s. Family systems theory is a human behavior theory that views the family as an emotional unit. This theory, proposes that people cannot be understood in isolation from one another, but rather as part of their family (Darling, Cassidy & Powell, 2014). Members of a family system are interconnected with each other’s.…
My professional goal is to obtain a Walden’s Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in crisis and trauma intervention. I would especially like to work with individuals affected by crisis, trauma, and grief, and help them overcome their personal and social problems that have, without a doubt, strong negative influences on their lives. Studying at Walden University is important to me, because this school will give me the knowledge and skills that I need to help people make the most of their own abilities, develop skills, and empower them to reach their goals. In the future, after gaining more knowledge and experience about mental health, I want to create mental health service agencies across the United States that will help the…
Application of Theory The biosocial development in early childhood was between grandmother and grandfather. This caused much confusion within young child, for it was not her mother or father. This causing a lack of emotional guidelines which later led to psychopathology (Berger, 2012). Externalizing problems arose while child was unable to control verbalization.…

(2) Supporting parents who are caring for infants and young children by expanding and developing community child care services/groups and at-home volunteer support. After hearing our first three speakers I am most intrigued by human service and family development. The reason for this is that through all of the tests we have taken whether for values or for strengths jobs of helping people have showed up. I have also had an interest in HDFS because high school consoler has shown up for me on the test results. Through getting to listen to the speakers in class I was able to learn that there is a wide Varity of opportunities for students in the HDFS major program. The program allows you to specialize in a range of different things.…
My strongest HDFS content areas are Families and Individuals in Societal Contexts, Internal Dynamics of Families, and Human Growth and Development Across the Lifespan. I feel these are my strongest areas because I have received extensive knowledge and experience in how individuals grow and develop. At the same time, I also feel confident in my training on the reasons behind how people react in response to certain environments. Development is not an independent action, but, rather, a process that happens in the midst of a mass of social interactions, environments, and societal rules and expectations. Overall, I feel the most confident in my ability to recognize how a person’s personality has developed and the way in which I can assist their…

This semester has really helped me see my potential as a student. I have developed new habits, learned new strategies, and exceeded many academic and personal goals. In this essay I will be explaining how this SDEV course helped me do all these things, as well as help me decide the career i will be pursuing. Throughout my college experience I have been pursuing a sociology degree but, the more I learned about Psychology the more I started to be attracted to it. Our Holland Typology assignment really helped me gain insight into both of the majors I have been stuck between.…
Every family has their own ways of doing and seeing things. Every family is different. Family systems theory can be seen in every family. Every family has their own roles, rules and goals they want to achieve. The families as show the theories concepts of boundaries, climate and equilibrium.…
Here, I learned how to be more culturally competent, work to empower oppressed individuals, allow client self-determination, as well as social work basics. Now, I am confident the graduate program here at Iowa will help me expand my knowledge even further. I am motivated to continue my education so I can get out into the working world and become a counselor. I hope to apply my knowledge and experiences in the working field, and represent the University of Iowa School of Social Work with professionalism and great competency. A long-term goal of mine is to one day own my own practice because it will not only challenge me professionally, but hopefully provide positive services to my community.…
One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…
Systemic Analysis of the Family The first tool I chose for the Riverez family would be a Genogram. According to Genogram.org a genogram is a useful way to map relationships and family patterns for at least three generations. Family therapist use genograms to map relationships.…
Family Assessment The community environment is a suburb of Saint Paul and is on the east side of the Twin Cities area. The housing development is located off a busy street that consists of a public High School, a grocery store, multiple fast food restaurants, a city park, and is one mile from a major highway system. The housing development includes over one hundred and fifty houses that are mostly brick, two story homes with vivid green grass, colorful flower gardens and filled with friendly, waving homeowners.…
Family systems theory is a theory that is used to describe the family as a whole. When understanding this theory there are some key terms to remember. Wholeness, interdependence, homeostasis, boundaries, and hierarchy are all terms that describe family systems theory the best. This theory was expanded upon by Murray Bowen. Wholeness is defined as the sum of all parts (Herring, 2015).…
In my understanding, Human development is a lifelong process of physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional growth and change. This process starts in the early stages of life from babyhood to childhood, childhood to adolescence to adulthood, where enormous changes take place. Through this process each person develops different attitudes and values that guides choices, relationships, and understanding. Another important developmental stage is sexuality, this is a lifelong process. Infants, children, teens, and adults are sexual being.…
