Human Contact Research Paper

In all of history up to the present, humans have used social contact to get through everyday activities. In this day and age, however, technology has progressed to allow people to accomplish tasks online, reducing the need for human contact. People do not have to leave their house to browse a section of books at the library, shop for clothes, or show photos to their friends. Many people argue that technology saves precious time, and that still plenty of human contact still goes on through forms of social networking. While there is a belief that social media is a form of contact, it is more antisocial than it is social. People have "friend lists" in the thousands on some forms of social networking. It is not scientifically possible for someone to foster this high of a number of social relationships, the brain simply cannot handle it. Because of this, the concept of a "friend" on social media is reduced to just a number, making people value a number more than real friends. On these websites, people also compete for the most "likes" on pictures of themselves, which causes narcissism. As a result, children growing up in this world of social networks will not learn how to interact politely with others. The way that technology is reducing human contact, both the amount of it and the way it is perceived through social media will cause people to live selfish and narcissistic lives in the future. The limiting of human contact through technology causes negative effects on people's lives because it slowly tears apart communities and gives people a false sense of contact through social media. While technology can save time, the costs of reducing human contact outweigh the benefits. Will humans keep spending more and more time using technology and realize
