The Human Battery
Do males or females produce the most electric current?

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to determine whether males or females produce the most electric current. An aluminum plate, a copper plate, a micro ammeter, two lead wires with alligator clips, water, notebook paper, and pencil were used as materials. It was predicted that males would produce a greater electric current than females. To test this hypothesis, the lead wires were connected on one end to the micro ammeter and then one wire was connected to the aluminum plate and the other wire was connected to the copper plate. Five male and female students volunteered to participate. The participant would first place one hand on the aluminum plate and one hand on the copper plate. The reading on the ammeter was noted and recorded on a piece of paper. Then, the participant wet their hands and placed them on the ammeter. That reading was recording. Next, the participant did jumping jacks for one minute. After the minute, the participant placed their hands on the plates again, and the reading was recorded. The experiment was then repeated on the other volunteers. An average of the male readings and of the female readings was calculated for each condition.

However, females produced a higher current under readings with wet hands and after exercise. Could humans be the battery of the future?

As a small group of the class, we were put together to test one person's heart rate, temperate and breathing rate of the group. By this the subject (person doing the test and being monitored on) would be doing the harvard step test. The harvard step test was simple and effective to do to find out the heart rate, breathing rate and body temperature. In the small groups, we decided to do the experiment on stairs so the subject would simply step up one step and then step down again, and they would repeatively do this for 5 minutes, rest for 5 and then do it again another 2 times.…

After the minute of rest the participants were asked to pick up the weight and were asked to do as many full extension bicep curls as they can in a minute. This minute on minute off set up was repeated for a total of 5 times. Once all 5 participants had lifted for a total of 5 minutes on with 5 minutes of rest, then the average of each rep was calculated and the amount of change recorded.…

The size of the brain among males is larger, but this is likely due to their relatively bigger size. Another finding was that males have a much greater ability to picture objects rotating in the mind (Wade, 27). This is accounted to the fact that males grow up building toys or playing games that prepare them more for this type of ability. However, this large difference between males and females ability of mental rotation can decrease with practice. Studies found that assigning females to play Tetris eliminated the sex difference (Wade, 28).…

Chemoreflex created greater MSNA bursts and amplitude, chemoreflex increases were similar in both genders. This study then concludes that gender and the menstrual cycle do affect parts of the study and sympathetic nervous system, but overall had no damaging or long lasting effects. From this research, I have learned that biological differences can affect one’s nervous system, but not dramatically. After reading this article some of my beliefs have changed on the topic before I did any research I believed that one’s gender should not affect their health,…

The main purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effects on men when their manhood was threatened do to the belief that they have to uphold their manhood at all times. The theories/ ideas that were carried along before the experiment was performed were that masculinity can be seen as a relational, contextual, and dynamic process of construction. Upon this there were several hypotheses formed, the first one being: the experiment would follow along the lines of Bosson and Vandello’s experiment where men who seemed threatened would react in an aggressive manner. The second hypothesis was that men would endure a higher level of pain than their competition who seemed unthreatened. The final hypotheses were that men would feel higher levels of gender discrepancy after feeling threatened and that the painful stimuli that was felt during this experiment would make the person feel less threatened if they endured through…

Females tend to have more connections between neurons and increased blood flow in this area. As a result, they may process information more quickly and may be able to respond to information faster than males (Gurian & Stevens, 2010). Additionally, the hippocampus, which converts information from short-term memory into long-term memory, tends to be larger in the female brain. The larger hippocampus may provide females with increased memory storage and the ability to access more information for recall. Female brains may also mature earlier than male brains, as the last step in male brain growth occurs around age 30 (Gurian & Stevens, 2010).…

There are many differences between both males and females, from anatomy to the gender assigned roles of society. Through the decades, the gender roles have been put into play, in not only our society, but also the societies around the world. “Sex and Temperament” written by Margaret Mead, explores the cultural norms of societies around the globe and how they align with the norms we have become accustom to in our daily lives. “This study is not concerned with whether there are or are not actual and universal differences between the sexes, either quantitative or qualitative.” (Mead, 710)…

Many people say that females think very differently from males. Well, that turns out to be a true statement, because both genders have really different brains. “Male brains have more connections within hemispheres to optimize motor skills, whereas females brains are more connected between hemispheres to combine analytical and intuitive thinking” (Lewis par. 2). Also, their brains are composed of two different types of tissues the grey ones and the white ones.…
