For thousands of years, we have been living on the only planet known to have an environment, planet earth. As we are progressing through the 21st century, the world has changed in innovative ways that human activities have a big impact on the environment we live in. Some people believe that the earth is being harmed by human activities, while other people feel that human activities make the earth a better place to live in. In my opinion, I believe that the earth is being damaged by human activities. There are several statements supporting my opinion.

People have been using forest lands to grow more foods and create more materials and have been cutting down trees to create more space for building industries and homes due to the rapid growth in population. ‘According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of forest are lost each year.’ (Rinkesh, n.d., Para. 02). Furthermore, as millions of species are living in the forests that they call home, deforestation is a threat to their survival and for us, humans as well, since trees give us oxygen and if they are being cut down, as a result, it would increase the greenhouse gases within the atmosphere causing global warming. According to a research done by Softschools, (Softschools.com, n.d.) :
‘Approximately 20% of our oxygen is produced in the rainforests. It is estimated that they will be gone in 100 years, resulting in an extremely devastating oxygen production loss.’ (p. 10).
