Reading Assignment 4

The major reason for returning to school to complete my degree was based on not taking my memory for granted. I find that my memory has changed, not recalling names was the most frustrating, since I was never good with that anyway. On many occasions, I find myself not remembering what I wanted to do when I enter another room. In order to be more productive and not overwhelmed, I keep a calendar and a journal. At times, I have posted notes on my cell phone calendar, so I get a daily reminder. I have purchased gifts earlier in order to save time and money. However, by the time an occasion comes to give the gifts, I have forgotten where I have stored them. Or on occasion, buy gifts that I forgot about until months later when I come across

Some of the research points reports cognitive ability in blacks declines faster. Whereas other research states the cognitive ability declines faster in whites. There doesn’t seem to be a true understanding of the discrepancy in the research. The participants in the research were derived from three longitudinal cohort studies located in Chicago. Those studies were the Minority Aging Research Study, the Rush Memory and Aging Project and the Religious Orders Study. The Minority aging group was older blacks, the Rush Memory group were older whites and the Religious Orders was a mixed group with 7% being black. The participants were required to be free of dementia and do at least one yearly follow-up evaluation. Cognitive function as tested yearly with 17 individual tests during a session that lasted one hour. Periodic measures were made of episodic memory using seven tests: immediate and delayed recall, semantic memory, verbal fluency, working memory, perceptual speed, visuospatial ability and global

Ma'am, I am writing this to notify you of the events that took place this afternoon. I was contacted by SGT Saunders at 1239 stating to call him ASAP on his wife phone. After I made contact, SGT Saunders informed me that he was being charged with Child Neglect/Endangerment and needed someone to come to his location . He stated that he was located in the rear CASCOM parking lot adjacent to A Ave. After I arrived on the scene an officer approached me and stated they had been called around 1120 and the was told two young kids (2 and 4 y/o) were left in a car unattended.…

Throughout the course of this semester, taking TCF 201 has taught me about, even though I come to the conclusion that going in this direction of actually being a filmmaker is not for me, in the end. However, it did teach me a great deal. I never knew how much work could go into producing and directing your own work, I mean I had a general idea, but nothing to this magnitude of the amount of work that it takes, plus the hours of sleep that I have lost took a toll on me as well. But it was all worth it.…

When I first began this assignment, I thought that the question, “Who am I?,” was a very difficult one to answer. However, as I began to answer the question, there came to light some interesting similarities. If I were to categorize each of my answers in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, race, or religion, then I believe I only addressed those with the first and fifth time answering the question. My first answer was, “I am a white male American who attends school and goes to work.” That answer provides information about how I see my physical self in context with the culture I live in.…

Research studies show that, “It was claimed, for example, that African Americans retained child-like psychological developmental characteristics throughout their lifetimes and that the intellectual development of Black children was uniformly slower than that of Whites” (174). I’m perturbed and disturbed by this research study because it was created by Whites, administered by Whites and analyzed by Whites. In addition, I disagree with the theory that Black children never develop intellectually and that they’re slower than Whites. This statement is absolutely absurd and inaccurate; I believe many blacks were naïve or either not privy to the information of Whites.…

Remembering information usually comes easy to me as often I can still take a test unprepared and still succeed. In High School I rarely studied and instead just remembered information as I took the test and I would usually get an A or a B though I usually prepare myself for tests I am never afraid of tests as a result. Life events are a bit complicated as I do not remember a lot of events in detail but the ones I do remember I am able to deeply analyze the memory. I am able to figure out dates of memories by comparing the memory to what was on my mind for example homework or just general stress. Making the connection between what was bothering me I can remember the dates of certain events.…

In regards to education, there are differences between a white man’s education and a black man’s education. According to Denisa R. Superville’s article, 59% of black men graduate from college and 80% of white men graduate from college nationally. In another article by S. Jay Olshansky it states that,”When race and education are combined, the disparity is even more striking. In 2008 white US men and women with 16 years or more of schooling had life expectancies far greater than black Americans with fewer than 12 years of education—14.2 years more for white men than black men.” From Olshansky’s quote we can start to analyze the differences between a black man’s education versus a white man’s education.…

There would be two groups of seniors, one that received the exposure to natural scenery and one that did not. The treatment and testing room could be a sparsely decorated office with a large window that opens to a grassy, leafy scene that is unimpeded by man-made artifacts. For the group receiving no treatment, an uninteresting curtain could be pulled over the window. After the “treatment” period (a predetermined number of minutes), subjects would have their working memory tested by a method that has already proved reliable in older…

The efficiency of memory usually begins to degenerate after people are over 30 years old because of the circle of brain’s cognitive performances (Svoboda, 2009). Each cognitive performance is changed with increasing age. Some cognitive performance is generated in older people, such as Semantic memory, Crystallized intelligence, and Emotional reasoning (Yue, 2013). On the other hand, older people have some degenerate cognitive performance, which are mostly related to memory, such as Recall, Episodic memory, Processing speed, and Divided attention (Yue, 2013). Therefore, people attempt to improve their memory before they are old.…
