Huli Jing, fox spirits, appear in Chinese folklore, literature, and mythology where as depending on the tale, they can bring mischief or joy to the individual the tale is referencing. The fox spirits origin stories were originally used to explain controversial topics in society to bring reason, like homosexuality or infidelity. Occasionally, the fox spirits were romanticized; these stories were then favored. Hence leading to the inspiration for the short story ¨Fox Hunt¨ by Lensey Namioka. The character, Leona Hu, personality is self-assured, mysterious, and secretive.

She knows things Andy doesn’t and she understands her actions and the meaning behind them leaving Andy in the dark. They become good friends Lee Hu notices things about Andy realizing his goals, values of education, and longing for companionship. They hang out at the library together where they study and talk. As Andy studies for the PSAT, a standardized test for high school students, he feels very confident in his abilities but feels that while she is helping him study he has not helped her enough. “I’ll get my reward someday” (133). She is referring to the reward that follows the myth, these vague responses make her appear secretive because there is a lot more depth to her character and she is holding out on who she is for now.
