The origin of “Chavismo” as a political trend can be placed chronologically on February 4, 1992, when, in the middle of a coup d'etat against President Carlos Andrés Pérez, then Lieutenant-Colonel Hugo Chavez appeared on television, taking responsibility for the action and asking his followers to surrender. After that, Chavez was imprisoned in the barracks of San Carlos, north of Caracas; place where he was frequently visited by people who came brought him gifts and would write him notes of support. The same happened in the prison of San Francisco de Yare, where he was taken after. It all starts in 1982 when Hugo Chavez along with other military part of the revolutionary Bolivarian Movement 200 attempts a coup d'etat with the then president but fails and is imprisoned for two years. In 1998, Chavez comes to elections with the support of the Fifth Republic Movement political party with his political project that was based on the need to convene a National Constituent Assembly to restructure the republic. At that time, he had a lot of popularity and had the support of all the Venezuelan leftist government and wins the election.
