My potential interviewee, Hugh Hardyman, works as an automation carpenter for Broadway. An automation carpenter is a backstage worker responsible for the movement of objects around the stage. For the Broadway performance, “Spiderman,” Hugh worked to make Spiderman fly. Right now, he’s one of the automation carpenters for a Broadway show that we get to see, “Something Rotten.” I thought it would be interesting to learn about the history and makings of “Something Rotten,” seeing as we get to see the final product. Hugh would be able to provide insight into how the show was put on and what the Broadway backstage is like. Broadway plays a role in New York as a “global creative hub” because of it’s creativity - acting, singing, dancing, the set, the costumes - and the importance it has in the tourist industry.
