Huff And Metaxas: A Comparative Analysis

Autobiographies and biographies have many differences and similarities at the same time. The contrasting and comparing styles the authors used, the features of the books and the view that it gave me personally were each somewhat different for each of the books. After finishing the books Prepared for a Purpose by Antoinette Tuff and Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas they gave the insight to see that these two genres were similar yet unalike at the same time. They style used in the autobiography of Antoinette Tuff was mainly the account of her part in stopping a school shooting, the struggles of her personal life and the way God helped her through it. She spoke in first person throughout the story switching back and forth from the present situation the book was focused on, and her life leading up to that event. In the book she wrote she would keep the audience always wondering about the next part of the story while keeping them focused and content on the parts that were being read. My preference has always been that I would a book that caught my interest. Also my level of reading has slightly improved, due to the more difficult biography I read, forcing me to be able to comprehend a higher level style of writing and read it at a higher speed. These two books did give me a different outlook on these types of books, although not changing my reading preference. The autobiography I read allowed me to see their style of writing giving me more insight on the autobiographical type of writing, which I had not yet discovered. This writing style wasn’t very different from the styles I had previously read which led me to see that even though books may have different genres they can still have the same style. I had never read a biography before this unit, and doing so inclined me to find that they can be full of interesting information and thought provoking
