During the journey Huck and Jim were on, they came across two men who were con artist and help them out by allowing them on their raft. The problem is once they are on the raft they don't want to leave, they practice there shakespearean plays on the raft until they arrived next town. Once they arrive to this town they convince people to buy tickets to go see their play. The people of the town realized they have been swindled but don't say anything and tell other people to see the play. After two nights of the play the Duke and the Dolphin run off at the town throws tomatoes and dead cats at them. Yet these men still continue to pull off scams. Another big scam was when they showed up to another town and convinced people that they are Peter Wilks long lost brother, he is a man who just die,and then continue to allow Peter Wilks daughters to take them into their home. The two con artist begin to sell slaves. Then, Huck decides to steal the money from the conmen and reveal to one of the sisters that the Duke and Dolphin are conmen. Then the real brothers arrive and the conmen barely escape. “I don’t wish to be too hard on these two men, but I think they're frauds, and they may have complices that we don’t know nothing about.If they have, won’t the complices get away with the bag of gold Peter Wilks left?” (Pg.199). Growing up for Huck was difficult because his father is the town drunk and was never there for him. Yet, when bonding with Jim and building a friendship, Jim became a father like figure to Huck. “Every time he got money he got drunk; and every time he raised Cain he got jailed”(Pg.23). This quote shows that Huck's father was never there for him. As a result Jim would give him talks and be there for him when Huck needed a father to talk to. “Yo’ ole father doan’ know, yit, what he’s a gwyne to do. Sometimes he spec he’ll go ‘way, en den agin he spec he’ll stay. De best way to res’ easy en let de ole man take his own way. Dey’s two angels hoverin’ roun’ ‘bout him. Jim is giving Huck advice about his father explaining to him that his father has two angels, one black and one white, one bad and one good. It is uncertain which angel will win out, but Huck is safe for now.
