Criticism is used to expose a failure or mistake in order for it to be resolved. Throughout history, many critics were made through different styles of writing or different styles of delivery. Some critics were delivered through plays, some were delivered through speeches, some were harsh and some were funny. The most successful and most attention grabbing type of criticism was comedy. J swift manages to effectively criticize the people in charge of this abuse and mistreatment in his “a Modest proposal”. J swift delivers the idea that the solution to all problems is to start eating children. J swift states “I am assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London; that a young healthy child, well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food; whether stewed, roasted, baked or boiled, and I make no doubt, that it will equally serve in a fricassee, or ragout” (J. Swift). Through this it can be seen how J swift uses shocking proposals in order to be extremely ironic and make those responsible realize that they have issue to take care of. J swift the continues on to state “I can think of no one objection that will possibly be raised against this proposal, unless it should be urged that the number of people will be thereby much lessened in the kingdom” (J. Swift). By stating this J swift makes the readers think that she will come to recognize that what he is saying is wrong because he says “I can think of no one objection… unless”, but in reality, J swift continues to use satire. She continues to use satire because she states the population will decrease, but the population that will be lessened is the population of the
