When talking about who Huckleberry Finn is, it is important to include the different pieces and parts that add up to who he is as a whole. This novel was unique to others that I have read because of the first-person point of view. It gave the reader an insight into what Huck was thinking rather than just guessing characteristics from his actions. From his thoughts and actions Huck’s personality circled around his immaturity, morality, and the idea that he doesn’t fit into the time period. From the beginning to the end of the novel Huckleberry’s immaturity was noticeable.…

On Necessary Endings Many of the world's most famous novels have controversial endings. Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea and Willa Carther's Song of the Lark are two of many. There is no ending, though, that is more controversial than Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huckleberry Finn is set during Pre-Civil War and tells the story of a young, uncivilized, white boy named Huckleberry, or Huck Finn. While trying to escape his abusive father, Huck sets out on the Mississippi River and is joined by Jim, a runaway slave.…

aDave Pelzer, autobiographer and victim of child abuse, once said, “Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul.” Unfortunately for Huckleberry Finn, it is the latter. His father is an abusive alcoholic who is unable to provide for Huck, as all of his money goes straight to purchasing liquor. He kidnaps Huck from Widow Douglass, who taught him proper etiquette, and takes him to live in a run-down shack near the river. Here, he is completely sheltered from anything his father did not have—religious knowledge, education, and the expectation of good manners.…

Over the course of the semester, I would like to analyze excerpts from two books, Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These books are filled with a ton of personality from the two main characters. Throughout the book, witty moments constantly took place and captured the reader’s attention. For example, in Tom Sawyer there is a scene where he is forced to have to paint a picket fence white. A task that he knows would take over the majority of his day.…
