Aunt Sally keeps Jim away from Huck. Aunt Sally says, “the runaway nigger... they've got him back, safe and sound, and he's in that cabin again, on bread and water, and loaded down with chains, till he is claimed or sold!” (p.217). Huck tries to steal Jim back from Aunt Sally but she captures him again and keeps him. Aunt Sally wants to adopt Huck in order to “sivilize” him. Huck says, “I reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she's going to adopt me and sivilze me and I can't stand it. I been there before” (p.220). Huck doesn't want to be civilized, he went through a lot and experienced that civilization is just not good for him, so he can't stand it. Huck is kept away from Jim when Jim is captured by Aunt Sally which makes it difficult for Huck to be on his own and Huck doesn't want to get adopted by Aunt
