Hubner In The Last Chance In Texas

Hubner in The Last Chance in Texas explains the process of resocialization in the Texas State Commission at Giddings State school for both the girls and the boys. In the book, the reader can clearly see that the process for the girls is different than the guys because the guys try to put up an act and the girls they come from their emotions. The book is structured to the boys in part one and all their process and then part two is the girls and their process and the differences between them and the boys. Chapter 12 is the most significant chapter of part two because it talks about the struggles of one of the students in TYC and how she was able to move past that and open up so she can become a better person. Hubner starts chapter twelve with Coach Brown and all the letters and presents he has received from children he has helped. The author describes how the coach talks about how he sends one of his students twelve dollars which shows that he cares about his students and want them to know if they have a problem they can always count on him. The psychologist is worried that once Candace is out in the real world she won’t do well. Candace enters the room and she gives them her plan on how she is going to succeed out in the real world. She earned her GED and she tells them that she took full advantage of what Giddings had to offer. She tells them she wants to go study so that she can be a masseuse. They talk about what changed in her and what are her barriers for and she answered one of them is her mom. They ask her why she committed one hundred and twenty armed robberies if kids had low self-esteem but didn’t do what she did. In the end of the chapter, they let Candace out in a halfway house in Fort Worth where she helped the girls and helped herself
