Significant advancements in technology have assisted scientists to have a deeper and more accurate understanding of the universe and it’s beginning. Over centuries the dedication and commitment to research in technology has had a major impact on discovering and understanding the universe. Such technologies include Hubble Space Telescope, COBE and the Planck satellite. Astronomers and Scientists currently estimate that the Big Bang occurred just under 14 billion years ago.Without the invention of telescopes our understanding of the universe and space would be based on beliefs and myths from different cultures rather than factual evidence.

The satellite measures a type of radiation which is called the cosmic microwave background. It permeates the universe searching for evidence of the events that took place during and after the explosion known as The Big Bang. Very similar to the Cosmic Background Explorer, it spent four years orbiting Earth to detect the oldest light in space, the cosmic microwave background radiation. The four year mission of collecting data was successful and resulted in the conclusion that the universe in fact is older than originally thought. These discoveries gives scientists a glimpse of what space looked like 14 billion years ago. For example in 2015, the satellite released maps of the cosmic microwave background which supports the theory of cosmic inflation, meaning that during the time of the Big Bang, the universe expanded to such a large extent and faster that light. The Planck Satellite has played a major role in the development of knowledge of the universe and its origin by gathering data of the oldest
