Site Apartment unit four’s existing site sits in the inner depths of a Manchester, Connecticut condominium complex. The entire residential area lacks a sense of uniformity among the plants. Some apartments have a bush that adorns their lawns, each a different variety, while others simply have a grassy yard. However, this absence of standardization in plants presents a welcome sight when contrasted against the buildings themselves. These buildings all possess identical architecture. For instance, every owner has a front and back porch that provide a slightly elevated view of the landscape. In addition, no tree grows within this group of condominiums. The potential danger of their falling onto power lines, cars, and houses poses too great of a risk in such a small, confined space. Overall, the place consists of more hardscape than plantscape because of the necessity to accommodate parking. …show more content…
A raised slab of pavement stretches in front of the entry porch's stairs to aid in a smoother ascent to the apartment from the parking lot ground. Next to this piece of pavement lies a flat lawn. Here, a half dead green velvet boxwood rests centrally against the eastern wall of apartment unit four. During the winter season, truck plows heap an enormous amount of snow from the parking lot into this yard. The snow pile can reach up to half a story high. A sidewalk horizontally bisects apartment four’s back lawn. The section closest to the building contains a large Taxus (yew) shrub. It completely covers the kitchen window with its height of almost one story. The other section has a wired fence at the edge of its borders to separate this condominium complex from another one.
